Born in Australia in the mid-60’s, I see myself as a woman of the world. I had the privilege of travel from a relatively early age; travelling extensively with my entire family to see amazing places and live overseas. My parents taught me to take time to walk in other peoples’ shoes whenever I could. I was encouraged to love art and food and people, to be observant of the things that convey a sense of a culture. I was always a child with an inquisitive eye. Added to all this is the fact that I am adopted… as a toddler I used to say “I am adapted” and the concepts of belonging and difference have always fascinated me and informed my world.
For a brief time during my mid-30’s, I lived in the glorious SW of France. There, I found my “heart place” – speaking a foreign language and immersing myself in a different way of life. Suddenly I had a new perspective on both ‘me’ and the world. So I took a leap at 38 and moved my life. I am currently living in the UK. But I have ‘A Gypsy Heart’! My flighty, hummingbird soul constantly seeks a new adventure or a shift of perspective.
My driving force is seeking the chance to visit new places and varied cultures so that I can see how the differences in the world unite us all. I used to write endless pages of journals when I travelled alone. It was a way to fill the space at the dinner table and to keep the voices in my head company. I started to share some of my pieces with friends & family. Everyone told me I should write more. With my keen eye for an good aesthetic, I love to capture images of the details of differences in place, of patterns and of the beauty of the world in photos. Now they told me to share those as well!
It seems only a simple step to be one of those folk who starts a blog… I don’t know where it will take me, but I sure as hell know where I will take the blog – ANYWHERE I can!!Ā
When I am not on the move, I work in the hospitality industry – welcoming people and plying them with good food, even cooking it sometimes! I love my little home filled with memories of fabulous places and beautiful souls I have known and loved. But if I sit still for too long, the walls close in on me. This hummingbird longs for a nest but not for too long. The next flight always beckons.Ā
I hope that my take on the world gives some joy to others. I love to travel alone but I love to share it all as well.
Welcome to my little Gypsy world.
